City of Popes and theater

This gem of the Provence is listed as World Heritage by UNESCO and shines its beauty along the banks of the Rhône with its bell-tower, pink tiles, its famous bridge and the impressive Popal palace, a residence of 15.000 m² built during the 14th century, when the popes made Avignon their capital. Today, the palace offers the unique setting of the theatre festival held in Avignon for the entire month of July.
